action

After the death of her husband and due to high debts, Angela has to sell the family villa. Here she lives with her little sister Claudia, her mother-in-law, the countess, and their daughters Olga and Lina as well as cook Sultana. The buyer of the villa is the upstart Domenico Cardona, who made his living by producing bricks. He moves into the rooms on the ground floor with his shy son Daniele, while the women are allowed to use the rooms on the upper floor.

Olga, Lina, Claudia and Sultana quickly find pleasure in the reserved Daniele and each try their own way to seduce him, but Daniele always withdraws. He finds refuge with Angela, who is the only woman who works to support the family. She works as a translator. One day Daniele meets up with his best friend Leo to secretly watch adult magazines. Olga, Lina and Claudia see the two of them and rush off laughing. They believe Daniele is homosexual, which would also explain his rejection of their advances. One day the women want to go to the opera with Cardona and Daniele. Daniele asks Olga to help him tie the bow tie. When she makes hints about his love life, he pounces on her and sleeps with her. Cardona in turn tries to seduce Angela after attending the opera, but she rejects him. Daniele spends the next day with Angela and secretly watches her undress in the evening. She sends him out of the room when she wants to sleep, but later looks for him in his room. They both spend the night together. Daniele is all the more disappointed when Angela goes to Paris with Cardona to help him with business as an interpreter. Both extend their stay in Paris and Claudia explains to the desperate Daniele that her sister is not for him. She was always cold-feeling, calculating and a “gentleman rider”.

Angela and Cardona return from France as a married couple. Since Daniele's best friend Leo has since gone to Australia, nothing keeps the young man in Italy. After dedicating himself exclusively to work in his father's brick company for a while, he went to the USA for a long time to attend a seminar in business management. Cardona doesn't really care about his work in the meantime. Bored by Angela's fickleness, he turns to her sister-in-law. While trying to deflower the strictly religious Lina, Cardona dies of a heart attack. Daniele is back in Italy just in time for the funeral. While the women pretend to mourn, Daniele discusses with Angela, walking behind the hearse, how the father's wealth can best be saved from the tax authorities.
