Dieter Flach

Dieter Flach (born May 15, 1939 in Bad Nauheim ) is a German ancient historian .

Flat studied history and classical philology at the University of Marburg and was founded in 1967 as a student of Karl Christian Dr. phil. PhD . In his dissertation he dealt with the relationship between the Roman poets Horace and Properz . He then worked as an assistant at the University of Marburg and completed his habilitation in 1970 with a thesis on the Roman historian Tacitus . In 1973 Flach was appointed full professor of ancient history at the University of Marburg. In 1981 he moved to the University of Paderborn , where he researched and taught until his retirement (2004).

Flach deals with broad areas of ancient history and classical philology. He is a specialist in the historiography and agricultural history of the Roman Empire . He has also emerged as a translator and editor of bilingual annotated editions by various Roman authors.
