Dieter Läpple passed his Abitur examination in Heilbronn in 1958 . From 1958 to 1963 studied with Rudolf Daudert at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and began an apprenticeship as a stonemason in 1960 .

In 1963 and 1964 Läpple was assistant at the chair for modeling and life drawing at the Technical University of Braunschweig . As a freelance artist, he worked in Hanover from 1965 to 1970 .

In 1965 he won the competition to design the Käthchen fountain in Heilbronn. His figure of Käthchens von Heilbronn , created for the fountain, caused a long controversy among the population, which was reflected in numerous letters to the editor to the Heilbronn voice . The fountain was dismantled in 1989, the figure was still installed in Heilbronn, but was removed from its location at the meat store in autumn 2013 due to a construction site and stored in the old milk farm until further notice . Since September 2016, the sculpture has been located very close to its original location, between the Neckar, Marrahaus and Fleischhaus.

Läpple lived and worked in Heilbronn since 1971. Many of his works were displayed in public spaces in the city and the surrounding area. In Heilbronn he also runs the Heilbronn Academy of Fine Arts - Dieter Läpple , where you can complete classical training with a diploma as a painter and sculptor.

In 2009 Läpple “buried” “ modern art ” and turned back to the form of expression of the fine arts .

In 2011 Läpple was seen in the RTL program "Mitten im Leben", in which his relationship with a Thai woman was discussed.
