División de Honor (chess) 2002

The División de Honor (chess) 2002 was the eighth season of the División de Honor and at the same time the 46th Spanish team championship in chess , it was played with ten teams. The champion was the defending champion CA Tiendas UPI Mancha Real, CA iberCaja Zaragoza, CA La Caja Las Palmas and CA Cofimán Mancha Real were promoted from the Primera División. While Zaragoza and Las Palmas reached relegation, CA Cofimán Mancha Real had to relegate together with CA Reverté Albox and CE Terrassa.

mode

The ten participating teams played a simple round-robin tournament . The last three were relegated to the Primera División and were replaced by the promoted from the Primera División. The game was played on four boards, the placement was first determined by the number of board points (one point for a win, half a point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the direct comparison and then the number of team points (two points for a win, one point for a tie, no point for a loss).

Dates and venue

The tournament was held in Mondariz from November 30th to December 8th .

Season course

CA Tiendas UPI Mancha Real was at the top of the table for the entire tournament and won by 2 points in the end. CE Terrassa and CA Cofimán Mancha Real were clearly beaten at the end of the table and were relegated early on, while the decision on the third relegation place was only made in the last round against CA Reverté Albox, who were subject to direct rivals CA La Caja Las Palmas.
