Coat of arms of those von Dorbenck

Dobeneck even Daubeneck , is the name of an old East Frankish noble family . The family, some of which still exist, belongs to the Vogtland nobility. Later the Lords of Dobenck acquired possession and prestige in Saxony , Prussia and Württemberg .

history

origin

The family is related to the Vasmann and Falkenstein families . The family was first mentioned with Berthold von Dobenck, who appeared in a document in 1279. The continuous line of trunks began in 1314 with Jan von Dorbenck on Gottmannsgrün .

Dobenck , the eponymous parent company, is now part of the town of Rehau in the Upper Franconian district of Hof in Bavaria . A Dobenck castle was mentioned for the first time in 869. The town of Dobenck near Taltitz in the Saxon Vogtland, which partially disappeared when the Pirk dam was built , was also connected to this family in terms of settlement history. A manor house has been named there since 1279 .

Expansion and possessions

In the Middle Ages, the von Dobenck family had their possessions mainly in what is now the district of Hof in Upper Franconia. In the area around Hof the Dorbencker can be traced in Rudolphstein / Berg (Upper Franconia) and Fattigsmühle , in the castle and palace (1815–1839) Brandstein with outworks in Schnarchenreuth , Gottsmannsgrün , Bug and in the castle Gut Schlegel in 1380 and again in 1856/1873. From 1645 they sat at Kaulsdorf Castle (Saale) , and in the second half of the 17th century at Hofeck Castle . In 1390 there was a manor house of the Dobe people in Moos.

In Berg there is a stone cross at a point where a Dobecker was killed by a Reitzensteiner . The cross is said to have been included in the municipal coat of arms. In Berg there are also some tombstones of the Dobenck family to be seen.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, branches of the family owned some estates in Prussia, including Sassen near Mohrungen in East Prussia , which was still owned by the family at the beginning of the 18th century. Also Blintendorf in the Saxon Office Plauen in the 17th century as reußisches feud in the family.

Wilhelm von Dorbenck († 1609), "the Rhinelander", was a stable master from the Electoral Palatinate and owned in Wiesloch and Altwiesloch .

The Lords of Dobenck had been members of the imperial knighthood in the knightly canton of the Franconian knightly circle since the early 16th century and also belonged to the Vogtland knighthood .

Personalities

Ursula von Dobenck became abbess in 1449 in the Poor Clare Monastery . In 1530 Alban was the lord of Rotha, Schlögel and Gottmannsgrün, Melchior owned Göritz and Prössen, among others, and Conrad von Dobenck was co-owner of Gottmannsgrün. Conrad's descendants were Christian Friedrich von Dobeneck auf Brandenstein, princely Schwarzburg lieutenant colonel and chamberlain and the princely Bavarian privy councilor , court judge and official governor Johann Heinrich von Dorbenck, lord of Kaulsdorf and Birkicht.

Kunemund and Fabian von Dorbenck were in the feud of Kunz von Aufseß in 1464 against the Würzburg bishop Johann III. von Grumbach involved. 280 horsemen, including several members of local aristocratic families, are said to have invaded the diocese. Their appearance was not unexpected, however, and so more than half were imprisoned and led in a triumphal procession through Würzburg.

The progenitor of the Prussian line was probably Balthasar von Dorbenck, Herr auf Forsteretz. From this branch came Job (also Job) von Dobeck, who became Bishop of Pomesania around 1500 . He was a member of the Teutonic Order of Knights and was called "the Iron" because he always rode in armor with his entourage. Balthasar II von Dobenck became the governor of Riesenburg and in 1625 Chamber Court and Justice Councilor in Prussia. Individual branches came from Prussia to the Kingdom of Poland .

Hans Rudolf Freiherr von Dorbenck (born November 19, 1748) died on May 10, 1797 as the Duke of Württemberg Chamberlain . His descendant Ferdinand Freiherr von Dorbenck (1791–1867) became a royal Prussian lieutenant general . His marriage to Maria von Pobeheim (* 1800) resulted in a daughter and five sons. His brother Carl Freiherr von Dorbenck (* April 20, 1796; † January 22, 1865) became royal Bavarian chamberlain , government and consistorial councilor . In 1826 he married Franziska (Fanny) Freiin von Welden (1807–1881). The couple had two daughters and five sons. Her son Constantin Freiherr von Dorbenck (* June 10, 1830 - December 9, 1903) became royal Bavarian district and city court accessist to Schweinfurt . One of his great-grandchildren was Hans-Ludwig von Dobenck (* July 30, 1948; † September 4, 2011) pastor , psychologist and regional church representative for pastoral psychological training with a focus on depth psychology. Most recently he worked as a director of studies at the Center for Pastoral Care of the Badische Landeskirche in Heidelberg.

An important representative of the family in the 19th century was Alban von Dobeneck (1833–1919), who at the beginning of the 20th century did his family research on the genealogy of small related Franconian noble families, often also ministerials initially independent from the empire . The family trees of the von Sparneck , Lüchau , Kotzau and the Rabensteiner zu Döhlau families come from him . He also went into more detail on the von Weißelsdorf family . A family association was founded in 1909. The family archive is located in Bamberg. The bearers of the name who are still alive are distributed throughout Germany.

On October 9, 1826 and October 9, 1837, the sex was enrolled in the baron class of the nobility matriculation in the Kingdom of Bavaria.
