Dog, Cat, and Canary is an American animated short film directed by Howard Swift from 1945.
action
The cat has tried again in vain to hunt mice or other rodents. The small animals were always faster than them. Suddenly the cat discovers a canary on the neighboring property, which is hanging in a cage on the terrace and singing. The cage is guarded by a large dog who is sleeping and is on a leash. The cat carefully walks through a loose picket onto the neighboring property and tries to grab the cage, but ends up on the sleeping dog. He wakes up and pursues the cat, baring his teeth until the leash is taut. The cat mocks the dog and provokes him because the leash prevents him from getting closer. The cat then stages a chase in which it lets the dog run in a circle around the leash bar so that its leash is wound up. In the end, the dog is caught off its leash and has to watch the cat grab the cage. The cage falls to the ground and opens and the canary manages to escape. A chase ensues in which the dog's shackles are also loosened. While the cat is chasing the bird, the dog is chasing the cat. All three get into the house, where the bird uses a trick to push the cat into the heating shaft. The cat falls over the heating pipes and lands in the stove. Resigned, she looks through the stove bars, while the dog and canary celebrate their victory over the cat.
