Donald C. Winter

Donald C. Winter (born June 15, 1948 in Brooklyn , New York ) is an American civil servant. He served from January 31, 2006 until his resignation on March 13, 2009, the office of United States Secretary of the Navy ( United States Secretary of the Navy ).

Career

In 1969, Winter graduated from the University of Rochester with a degree in physics . In 1972 he wrote his doctoral thesis, also on physics. Then TRW hired him , where he worked with lasers. In 1980 Winter received a three-year contract with DARPA . There he was busy with the Strategic Defense Initiative . Winter returned to TRW in 1982.

Winter became Chief Executive Officer of the Systems division, and after the takeover by Northrop Grumman , he moved to the board of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems . In May 2005, US President George W. Bush appointed him head of the naval office ; the official assumption of office took place in January of the following year.

Private

He has been married to Linda Jo Engel since June 15, 1969 and has two sons.
