Donald Edmond Rigazio (born July 3, 1934 in Cambridge , Massachusetts ) is a former American ice hockey goalkeeper .

Career

Donald Rigazio started ice hockey as a teenager in Canada. He then took part for the US national ice hockey team at the World Championships in 1955 , 1957 and 1958 and at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo . At the 1956 Winter Games, he and his team won the silver medal. Then the goalkeeper joined the Indianapolis Chiefs from the International Hockey League for the 1958/59 season , for which he made his professional ice hockey debut. After a single use, however, he moved within the league to the Louisville Rebels , where he was able to convince right away and with whom he won the Turner Cup in his rookie year . At the end of the season he received the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the goalkeeper of the IHL with the lowest average goal conceded. The former national player spent the 1959/60 season with the Cleveland Barons from the American Hockey League , for which he only appeared in three games, after which he ended his career at the age of 26.
