biography
Donata Wenders attended the Rudolf Steiner School in Berlin and initially studied communication sciences with a focus on photography and camera at the Free University of Berlin . Between 1987 and 1989 she lived in Stuttgart, where she continued her film and photography studies and continued her education at the Freie Kunstakademie Stuttgart . She then worked as a camera assistant. Wenders has been working exclusively as an artistic photographer since 1995.
She prefers to take pictures of people. This mainly creates black and white photos.
Donata Wenders has accompanied numerous well-known personalities over a long period in order to portray them in documentary form, such as the writer Siri Hustvedt , the choreographer Pina Bausch , the artist Leiko Ikemura , the writer Peter Handke , the fashion designer Yōji Yamamoto and the photographer Peter Lindbergh . Through her husband Wim Wenders , Donata Wenders had the opportunity to record many artists during the filming. These include Die Toten Hosen , Milla Jovovich , Andie MacDowell , Buena Vista Social Club and BAP . During the shooting of the 3D feature film Every Thing Will Be Fine in 2015, Donata Wenders created the film installation James Reading - Reading James , consisting of photographs and film, which was shown in 2016 at the Weserburg Museum for Modern Art in Bremen. Record covers for Sam Phillips and Die Toten Hosen were shaped by their photos, for example the away game and Nur zu Visiting . She also worked for 2raumwohnung , Wolfgang Niedecken and U2 .
Donata Wenders is a board member of the Wim Wenders Foundation in Düsseldorf.
