Duane Thomas (boxer)

Duane Thomas (* 1. February 1961 in Detroit , USA ; † 13 June 2000 ) was an American boxer in the light middleweight and world champion of the Association World Boxing Council (WBC short). He was trained by his compatriot Emanuel Steward , who also trained Lennox Lewis among others .

Professional career

In 1979 Thomas began his professional career. He completed a total of five fights that year, two of which he won early - he won his debut fight over four rounds by majority decision.

On December 5, 1986, the standard boom competed against John Mugabi for the vacant WBC World Championship. Thomas already won in the third round by technical knockout and was thus world champion. However, he lost the belt in his first title defense to the Mexican Lupe Aquino, trained by Abel Sanchez , in July of the following year through TKo in round seven.

In April 2000, Thomas completed his last fight against the Puerto Rican Abraham Bruno, which he won by unanimous decision of the judge.
