Ebba-Margareta von Freymann
Ebba-Margareta von Freymann (born Ebba-Margareta de Pers ; born December 13, 1907 in Vienna , † November 20, 1995 in Hildesheim ) was the first translator of some of JRR Tolkien's poems into German.
life and work
Ebba-Margareta von Freymann was born in Vienna in 1907. Her parents are the Austrian Carlo Marquis de Pers and the Swede Karin Gillblad. Since she went to school in Austria as a child and spent the summer months in Sweden , she grew up bilingual. As a teenager she wrote and published poetry .
Through her relatives in Sweden, she met a Finnish businessman whom she married in October 1929. So she came to Finland , but the war forced the family to flee to Germany . Her husband, Ernst Felix von Freymann , died in January 1950 and their children had long since moved out. After she had spent 19 years alone, she moved to live with her daughter Thelma Elisabeth von Freymann (* 1932) in Söhre near Hildesheim. There she wrote many poems and translated poems by JRR Tolkien from English with great dedication, which brought her great success. Ebba-Margareta von Freymann died in November 1995.
