The real eagles ( Aquila ) are a genus of birds of prey that belongs to the family of hawks (Accipitridae). This genus includes eleven species that are common in all climatic zones. Only the holarctic spread golden eagle is also found in America.

Systematics

According to recent molecular genetic studies, the genus is not a monophylum . It is therefore mostly combined with the genus Hieraaetus in the more recent literature , although this does not yet fully correspond to the results of the molecular genetic investigations (cf. Aquilinae ).
