history
prehistory
Numerous archaeological finds indicate that it has existed since around 5000 BC. Chr. Uninterrupted settlement of the Echzell area after.
On the north-western edge of today's village there was a large Roman fort for 1000 soldiers as part of the Wetterau Limes (→ Echzell Fort ) from around 90 AD to 260 AD . The church stands on the remains of the Roman baths ; some foundation walls are marked in the pavement in front of it. Near the church is a replica of a Roman Jupiter column that was found a few years ago south of the village.
middle Ages
The oldest surviving written mention of Echzell can be found in a document dated July 28, 782 as Ahizuuila .
The place was in the former Fulda Mark , which then became the County of Nidda , which became part of the County of Ziegenhain at the beginning of the 13th century .
Territorial reform
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse on December 31, 1970, the previously independent municipality of Grund-Schwalheim was incorporated into Echzell on a voluntary basis . On July 1, 1971, the merger with the community of Gettenau took place under the name Echzell . The community of Bisses was incorporated on October 1, 1971. The incorporation of Bingenheim by means of state law ended the series of mergers and incorporations on August 1, 1972.

On November 1, 2013, the newly elected mayor Wilfried Mogk took office and replaced Dieter Müller (SPD), who had been in office since 1995.

Economy and Infrastructure

The station Echzell is located on the railway line Beienheim Scots . The trains of the RB 32 run hourly from Friedberg (Hess) via Beienheim , Reichelsheim (Wetterau) , Echzell and Bad Salzhausen to Nidda . During the rush hour , there are through trains to and from Frankfurt (Main) Hbf .
Local public transport is provided by Verkehrsgesellschaft Oberhessen GmbH as part of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund .
Echzell is on the L 3188 ( Rodheim (Hungen) - Stammheim (Florstadt) ) and L 3412 (connection to the B 455 ). The district road K 181 leads to the B 455 near the motorway exit 37 ( Wölfersheim ) of the federal motorway 45 .
The German Limes Cycle Route runs through the town. It follows the Upper German-Raetian Limes over 818 km from Bad Hönningen on the Rhine to Regensburg on the Danube .
education
- The Lucius boarding school has space for around 150 students.
- The Kurt Moosdorf School is a pure elementary school. Until 2007 there was still a secondary school branch and until 2005 a special level.
- In the district Bingenheim is the life Bingenheim , an institution for the disabled with dorm, sheltered workshops and Waldorf special school.

In February 2020 it was confirmed that the US group and online mail order company Amazon intends to build a new distribution center with a size of around 8,500 square meters on the outskirts of the Grund-Schwalheim district.
