Eckardtsheim is a district in the Sennestadt district of the independent city of Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia and borders on Holte-Stukenbrock and Verl . In the district there are departments of the Von Bodelschwingh Foundation Bethel .

geography

The city of Bielefeld is not further subdivided into administrative or political units below the ten districts . Districts in Bielefeld are therefore only informal sub-areas, the delimitation of which mostly relates to the area of an old community. However, Eckardtsheim was never a separate municipality, which makes it difficult to define the exact area. For statistical purposes, however, Bielefeld is divided into 72 statistical districts. The informal district of Eckardtsheim roughly corresponds to the statistical district 66 Eckardtsheim . Often the heather flower , which is also part of the statistical district, is viewed as a separate area that does not belong to Eckardtsheim.

history

A historical tour of the history of Eckardtsheim has existed since October 2004. The 14 great days in summer are interesting: “Eckardtsheim - right in the middle!” With an art exhibition, concerts, sports and the “SPuK beer garden” - with a stage program every day. The Christmas market on the 2nd weekend in Advent is also worth seeing.

In 2005 Eckardtsheim received a special prize in the competition “ Our village has a future ”; the award honored the way from an institution to a village with community and private commitment.

In 2007 Eckardtsheim was 125 years old. The motto of the festival year was "125 years of Eckardtsheim - moving together".

10 years later, in July 2017, the 135th anniversary began with a feast day. The event began with a service at Gut Wilhelmsdorf with the accompaniment of the trombone choir. From there the congregation went on a train to the church, where the second part of the service took place this time, musically arranged by the church choir. The train was accompanied by tractors with self-designed trailers. The background was that Wilhemsdorf, originally a workers' colony for addicts, is the oldest part of Eckardtsheim. After the service and lunch together in the open air, the procession continued and stopped again and again at historical places, where individual scenes were played that represented the history of the town. The scenes were musically supported by the church choir and the trombone choir. The latter played folk songs from one of the trailers while they were being pulled from place to place.

Residents

Eckardtsheim had 3762 inhabitants in 2019.

Others

The children's circus has existed in Eckardtsheim since 2000 and has been called "Rêves des enfants" (French: children's dreams) since 2006. Children between 6 and 14 years of age train there to perform.

Eckardtsheim is known nationwide for its Christmas market, where every year many volunteers from various groups in the community such as the fire brigade, trombone choir and youth work get involved. The Bethel Foundation is still in charge . It always takes place on the second weekend of Advent and has been in front of the church since 1996. The net proceeds go to a donation project for a good cause every year.

Since November 2013, Antenne Bethel has been broadcasting on the VHF frequency 94.3 MHz (in a single-wave test operation with Bethel) in Eckardtsheim.
