Eddie Imazu
Edward "Eddie" Yasuhei Imazu (born December 12, 1897 in Yamaguchi Prefecture , Japan ; † May 29, 1979 in Los Angeles , California ) was a Japanese-born American art director and production designer who was featured at the 1937 Academy Awards for the film The great Ziegfeld (1936) was nominated for the Oscar for best production design.
Life
Originally from Japan, Imazu began his career as art director and production designer in the Hollywood film industry in 1927 with the film California and worked for 35 years as art director at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) from 1933 to 1968 . In the course of his career he worked on the staging of over eighty films and episodes of television series .
At the Academy Awards in 1937, Imazu was nominated for the Oscar for best production design for the film The Great Ziegfeld (1936) together with the two art director and production designer legends Cedric Gibbons and Edwin B. Willis .
