Edmond Trudel

(Joseph Jean) Edmond Trudel (born April 10, 1892 in Québec ; † September 13, 1977 ibid) was a Canadian conductor, pianist and music teacher.

Life

From 1912 to 1915 Trudel studied composition with Félix Fourdrain and piano with Alfredo Casella , Joaquin Nin and Lazare Lévy at the Paris Conservatory . He also took piano lessons from Alfred Cortot . After returning to Canada, he was cantor at the Church of St-Sauveur in Québec.

From 1921 to 1928 he stayed again in Paris, where he studied orchestral conducting with André Caplet and Paul Paray . He then settled in Montreal and worked as an operetta conductor at the St-Denis Theater . From 1929 he was musical director at the radio station CKAK, where he produced the series L'Heure provinciale and Syrup Symphonies until 1937 . He also performed as a conductor and pianist with the CBC , founded the Montreal Trio with Alexander Brott and Jean Belland in the early 1930s and was conductor of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra from 1935 to 1938 .

Between 1943 and 1956 Trudel taught at the Conservatoire de musique du Montreal . From 1944 to 1947 and from 1950 to 1952 he was President of the Académie de musique du Québec . His students included u. a. Monique Fournier , François Morel , Gilles Tremblay and Ronald Turini . Trudel composed some church music works.
