Edward Paul

Edward Tyler Paul (born August 24, 1896 in New York , † December 24, 1983 in Encinitas , California ) was an American film composer and filmmaker who won the 1945 award in the "Best Score" category for the films Up in Mabel's Room and The Hairy Ape was each nominated for an Oscar .

Life

Paul first appeared in the short film The Star Reporter in 1936 under the name Ed Paul, and in the same year worked as orchestra leader in the short film Midnight Melodies . In 1939 he worked with the comedian duo Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy known as Dick & Doof in the comedy Laurel and Hardy: In the Foreign Legion . In the 1940 war film The Long Road to Cardiff by John Ford with John Wayne in the lead role, Paul was part of the music department as a conductor. This was followed by a work in the music film Swing-Romance (1940), in which Fred Astaire and Paulette Goddard played the leading roles. In the following years Paul worked repeatedly in episodes of the documentary short film series Unusual Occupations and Popular Science, as well as individual episodes of the Speaking of Animals short films in the musical field.

In 1945 Paul was nominated for an Oscar in this category for two films for which he had written the soundtrack . Once for the comedy Up in Mabel's Room by Allan Dwan starring Marjorie Reynolds , Dennis O'Keefe and Gail Patrick , in which a now married man gets into trouble when he wears a telltale negligee with his initials embroidered on the tip of his former She wants to ask her beloved Marjorie back. Edward Paul died on Christmas Eve 1983 at the age of 87.
