The Eiger Glacier is a glacier on the western slope of the Eiger , in the Swiss canton of Bern . It extends from an altitude of 3700  m above sea level. M. behind the Kleine Eiger (secondary peak in the west of the Eiger) and pulls towards the valley towards the Eigergletscher station . Another tongue (3,200 to 3,500  m above sea level ) lies in the form of a hanging glacier between the Eiger and the Kleiner Eiger. It has a length of around 2.6 km and an area of almost 2.13 km² (as of 1973). Since then it has retreated about 150 m as the glacier melted .

In 1990 a large, continuous gap was discovered during a helicopter flight. As a result, the Research Institute for Hydraulic Engineering, Hydrology and Glaciology at the ETH Zurich (VAW) began research on the Eiger Glacier. The research objectives were to find out about hanging glaciers and measures to protect the Jungfrau railway station. The imminent crash took place in 1990, but without causing any damage. An automatic camera has been taking a photo of the glacier every day since then.
