Electric Arguments is the third studio album of the duo The Fireman , consisting of Paul McCartney and Youth there. At the same time, including the Wings albums, The Fireman albums, the classic albums, the live albums and compilation albums, it is Paul McCartney's 41st album after the Beatles split up . It was released in the UK and US on November 24, 2008.

Emergence

After the completion of his studio album Memory Almost Full Paul McCartney recorded the song My Soul with Nitin Sawhney , in which Paul McCartney took over the vocals, the album was released on the Nitin Sawhney album London Undersound on October 13, 2008, further one was Promotional CD produced.

From December 2007 to June 2008, Paul McCartney and Youth, alias Martin Glover, returned to his Hog Hill Mill Studio in Sussex and recorded their third album in a total of 13 days, otherwise little information about the creation or the recordings is known.

While the previous album of The Fireman Strawberries Oceans Ships Forest consists mainly of mixes of already published recordings by Paul McCartney, newly composed songs were recorded for Rushes , which are essentially atmospheric instrumental music.

The album Electric Arguments had no concept at the beginning of the recording, so it was only decided during the work to provide the instrumental songs with vocals, so that the finished album can ultimately hardly be distinguished from a conventional Paul McCartney studio album, since the proportion of experimental songs turned out lower. The songs Sing the Changes and Highway were also played by Paul McCartney during the 2009 tour. The song Sing the Changes is also on the McCartney compilation album Pure McCartney , released in 2016 .

During the promotion work for the release of the album Electric Arguments , the identity of The Fireman was announced and it was mentioned that Paul McCartney and Youth are hiding behind the pseudonym. The CD booklet also contains photos of Paul McCartney and Youth, and both gave interviews about the album.

For the first time a Fireman album was able to place itself in the charts, but it was not commercially successful compared to the other studio albums by Paul McCartney.

Electric Argument was not released by Hear Music , but by the label One Little Indian Records in Europe and ATO Records in the USA.

The album was also released as a vinyl double album.

Cover design and title of the album

The cover was designed by Norman Hathaway. The photos are from Ruth Ward. The promotion CD was produced with a completely different cover design. The album title Electric Arguments comes from the poem Kansas City to St. Louis by Allen Ginsberg . The CD comes with a 48-page illustrated booklet containing information about the album. The CD is in a Digipak cover.

Information on individual songs

  • The song Nothing Too Much Just Out of Sight is reminiscent of Helter Skelter from the Beatles album The BEATLES . The text of the song was interpreted as "processing" the divorce phase with Heather Mills , the marriage was divorced on March 17, 2008 in London.
  • Traveling Light was influenced by a shanty CD that Paul McCartney heard.
  • The songs The Sun is Shining , Sing the Changes and Dance 'Til We're High musically and lyrically reflect the positive mood of Paul McCartney, which was regained after the divorce. A possible background could be the then new relationship with his partner and later wife Nancy Shevell.
