The album was at the Grammy Awards in 1998 in the category Best Latin Pop Album nominated, but lost to the album Romances by Luis Miguel .

In the late summer of 1998, Iglesias released Cosas del Amor , another Spanish-language album, which made it to number 64 on the US Billboard 200 , was awarded gold in the US and, like his previous albums, at the Grammy Awards in the Category Best Latin Pop Album was nominated, but not successful.

Enrique and Escape

Around 1999 Iglesias began entering the English music market. So he brought out the song Bailamos in the summer of the same year , which can also be heard in the film Wild Wild West . The song even reached the top of the charts in the USA and enjoyed great success worldwide.

He then signed a record deal with Interscope Records and released his first English-language album Enrique at the end of 1999 . It achieved gold or platinum status in over 32 countries and climbed into the top 10 of many international album charts. It also includes other single releases such as Sad Eyes , Rhythm Divine and Could I Have This Kiss Forever . The latter was included with Whitney Houston and made it to number 1 in Switzerland . Iglesias also achieved another number one hit in the United States with another single from the album, Be With You .

In 2000, he appeared at Super Bowl XXXIV with Christina Aguilera , Phil Collins and Toni Braxton . Then Howard Stern said that Iglesias could not sing live. On June 8th of the same year he appeared on his show and sang live in front of Stern. The latter withdrew his accusation, noting that Iglesias was still able to sing live.

On September 3, 2001 he brought out the first single Hero from his next album Escape . The single became a worldwide success and was also a number one hit, for example in Switzerland, Great Britain, Australia or Canada. The single reached number 3 in the USA, as well as in Germany and Austria.

In the following months, more singles from the album were released, including Don't Turn Off the Lights , Love to See You Cry , Maybe and To Love a Woman . The latter was recorded with Lionel Richie . The single Escape , which bears the same name as the corresponding album, was an equally successful release of the album after Hero .

The second English-language album Escape was released on October 30, 2001 and surpassed the success of the previous album. So made it to the chart top of the album charts in the UK as well as in Australia, where it is the biggest selling album in the year of 2002. Escape climbed to number 2 in the United States, selling around 270,000 times in the first week after its release. The album received numerous awards: in Australia and Canada, for example, the album was each awarded platinum 5 times, 4 times in Great Britain and 3 times in the USA.

Quizas and 7

On September 17, 2002, the fourth Spanish album Quizas ( German : Maybe) was released. The title tells about the tense relationship between Iglesias and his father Julio Iglesias . The album reached number 12 in the US album charts and is therefore the album that has the highest Spanish-language chart placement on the Billboard 200 . No Spanish artist has ever succeeded in doing this. In Switzerland, Quizas rose to number 41. It was also able to sell around 1 million times in the first week. At the Latin Grammy Awards in 2003, the album won the Best Pop Vocal Album category .

At the end of 2003 his seventh album was released, which bears the name 7 and was not recorded in Spanish like the previous album, but this time again in English. Only two singles were released from the album, namely Addicted and Not in Love . The latter was recorded with Kelis and reached the top 15 of the singles charts in Germany, Australia and Switzerland. In Great Britain the single even made it into the top 5 of the charts.

Insomniac and Greatest Hits

In the summer of 2007, the English-language album Insomniac (German: person who suffers from insomnia) was released. It was mainly recorded at night and that's why it got the title. In Great Britain the album rose to number 3 and was able to sell over 250,000 times there, so that it was awarded gold.

The first single Do You Know? (The Ping Pong Song) was able to place itself in the top 10 of the charts in many European countries, in contrast, the single reached number 21 as the highest position in the United States and thus missed the top 20 of the charts. The album's second single, Tired of Being Sorry , also did well in several European charts. There is also a bilingual version of the song with the French singer Nâdiya . The bilingual version made it to high chart positions, especially in French-speaking countries. In addition, other singles from the album were released: Somebody's Me and Push . The latter was recorded with Lil Wayne , but there is also another version of the song without the rapper, which can be heard in the film Step Up to the Streets . Iglesias' song Can You Hear Me , which is also included in the album, was named by UEFA as the official song for the 2008 European Football Championship . He sang the title live before the final on June 29th at the closing ceremony in Vienna .

On July 4, 2007, Iglesias became the first Western artist to give a concert in Syria in three decades. 3 days later he performed in Hamburg at the Live Earth benefit music event organized by Al Gore .

In November 2008, the compilation album Greatest Hits was released , which contains a collection of his most famous songs. Like Insomniac , the album rose to number 3 in Great Britain and this time sold over 450,000 times there, so that it was certified platinum.

In addition, the album contains two new singles: Away , which was recorded with Sean Garrett , and the single Takin 'Back My Love . The latter was recorded with Ciara . There is also a version with Sarah Connor , which was only published in Germany and Austria.

Euphoria

On July 5th 2010 Iglesias released his ninth and first bilingual album, which consists of English and Spanish songs. Internationally, the album was able to place itself well in the charts, with the exception of Germany and Austria, where the highest position was number 87 and number 37. Despite all this, the album was able to sell over 1 million times worldwide. At the Latin Grammy Awards in 2011, the album was nominated for the Album of the Year category.

The album's first single, I Like It , was recorded with Pitbull and the second single, Heartbeat , also features a guest musician, Nicole Scherzinger . The single Tonight (I'm Fuckin 'You / I'm Lovin' You) was recorded with Ludacris and the single Dirty Dancer is the last release of the album with Usher and Lil Wayne .

The singles achieved great success as they have all sold over 12 million times. Almost all of them made it into the top 10 or the top 20 of the single charts, including in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain and the USA
