Church of the Redeemer
The simple, single-aisled , Methodist (UMC) Church of the Redeemer with an apse was built in 1949/50 according to plans by Eberhard Gildemeister and Hermann Gildemeister, largely in-house. A delicate roof turret stands on the gable roof . The building also includes meeting rooms and an apartment in a transverse, two-storey building. The tall oak columns in the middle part facing the street look like an entrance, but it is on the side.
The glass artist Heinz Lilienthal designed the glass windows.
Old people's home
The former, four-storey old people's home, Orleanstrasse 3 to 5, for 68 residents with its differentiated facade was built from 1967 to 1969 in two construction stages according to plans by Friedhelm Zeuner from Hamburg for the social work of the church. The independent, contemporary new building adapts to the church structure. The design and the uniformly white brickwork allow both buildings to appear as one ensemble. The new building is much more sculptural, especially on both sides of the street. Semi-cylindrical and free forms have an expressive effect on a floor plan that is quite conventional on the inside.
Today (2014) the apartments for the elderly are used for residential purposes and as offices for service providers.
Monument protection
In 2001, the buildings were listed as a cultural monument in Bremen .
