Armengol VIII of Urgell (Ermengol VIII) (* 1158 ; † October 16, 1209 ) was 1184-1209 Count of Urgell .

Life

Armengol was the son of Count Ermengol VII of Urgell and the Dulce of Foix , daughter of Count Roger III. from Foix. He followed his father in 1184 as Count of Urgell. Under his rule, the decline of County Urgell began, through fighting with the Vice Counts of Àger. From 1206 onwards there were conflicts with his nephew Guerau IV of Cabrera , who challenged the succession rights of his daughter Aurembiaix . In his will of August 30, 1208, he had his daughter under the protection of Pope Innocent III. entrusted.

Ermengol married Elvira von Subirats in 1178. They had a daughter: Aurembiaix (* 1196; † 1231) ∞ I. (1208; canceled 1228) Álvaro Pérez de Castro ∞ II. (1229) Peter of Portugal (* 1187; † 1258), son of King Sancho I of Portugal. After her father's death , she was betrothed to Jacob , son of Peter II of Aragon, but the engagement was later canceled.
