Ernst Julius Zimmermann

Ernst Julius Zimmermann (born February 18, 1855 in Wiesbaden ; † January 16, 1929 in Hanau ) was a teacher at the Hanau Drawing Academy and a historian .

Life

Ernst Julius Zimmermann grew up in Limburg an der Lahn , attended the Progymnasium there and then the building trade schools in Holzminden and Bromberg . Because of his outstanding achievements there, he received a scholarship for the Kunstgewerbeschule Vienna , then in 1884 a position as a drawing teacher at the drawing academy in Hanau, where he taught until 1921 and was appointed professor. After moving to Hanau, he devoted himself intensively to the history of the city and the surrounding area of ​​Hanau, which resulted in numerous publications. This culminated in the extensive work Hanau, Stadt und Land , which appeared in several editions (1903, 1917, 1919, 1920) and was reprinted in 1978. He was also a shop steward for the preservation of monuments in the city and the district of Hanau and a member of the historical commission for Hessen . Zimmermann was on the board for a long time, at times as chairman, active in the Hanau History Association and most recently its honorary member.
