Ernst Edvard Krogius (born June 6, 1865 in Helsinki , † September 21, 1955 in Copenhagen , Denmark ) was a Finnish sailor and sports official .

Ernst Krogius won the bronze medal in the 12-meter class at the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 . He was the skipper of Heatherbell , which took third place in both races of the regatta and thus ended the competition behind the only two competitors, the Norwegian boat Magda IX from skipper Johan Anker and the Swedish boat Erna Signe from skipper Nils Persson . The Heatherbell crew also included Max Alfthan , Erik Hartvall , Jarl Hulldén , Sigurd Juslén , Eino Sandelin and Johan Silén .

Krogius was also very active in the field of sports administration. He was one of the founders of the Suomen Olympic Committee and was also its president from 1919 to 1929. From 1906 to 1917 he was also President of the Finnish Sailing Association and in 1907 he was involved in founding the world association, the International Yacht Racing Union . Krogius was also president of the Finnish Gymnastics Federation from time to time. In the application process for the 1940 Olympic Games , Krogius was Vice President of the Finnish Organizing Committee with the applicant city Helsinki . In March 1920 he became a member of the IOC and held this position until August 1948. After his resignation he was one of the first people to be made an honorary member of the IOC.
