Esa Holopainen (born October 1, 1972 ) is a Finnish musician. He became known as the solo guitarist of Amorphis .

Career

Esa Holopainen founded the speed metal band Violent Solution in 1987 with drummer Jan Rechberger . The band released the demo Paralysis / Individual Nightmare and the EP Period of Depression in 1990 . After Violent Solution broke up , the two formed the band Amorphis together with rhythm guitarist Tomi Koivusaari and bassist Olli-Pekka Laine .

From 2003 to 2005 Holopainen was a member of the Finnish death metal supergroup Chaosbreed . In 2007 he took part in the instrumental album Guitar Heroes , released on November 7, 2007.

Furnishing

Just like Tomi Koivusaari, Esa Holopainen has been playing two ESP Eclipses that have been adapted to his specifications since late 2006 . Before that he had mainly played Gibson guitars, including the Gibson Les Paul , Gibson Flying V and Gibson SG models . Holopainen uses two models from the Dutch manufacturer Koch , the Supernova and the Powertone II, as amplifiers .

At the end of 2008 ESP launched a special model based on the most famous of Holopainen's guitars, the Esa Holopainen Signature Eclipse FT Sun. The limited edition of 10 copies was only available in Finland.

Holopainen cites Ritchie Blackmore , David Gilmour , Nick Cave , Thin Lizzy , Led Zeppelin , Slayer and Metallica as important influences .
