Extreme Rage ( A Man Apart ) is an American action film by F. Gary Gray from the year 2003 .

action

The DEA -Agenten Sean Vetter and Demetrius Hicks are working on the American-Mexican border. After drug lord Memo Lucero is arrested, another man, supposedly known as Diablo, takes over his business. The DEA agents are investigating this.

In a raid on Sean Vetter's house instigated by Diablo, his wife Stacy is killed. Then Sean single-handedly takes revenge on the drug dealers. Memo Lucero, who is imprisoned for life, supports Vetter's search for Diablo, since Lucero's wife has also been killed by Diablo.

Vetter kills one of the heads of the new drug cartel, who tells him before he dies that he has caught the wrong one - he is not Diablo.

In the end, Diablo is found. It turns out that Memo Lucero and Diablo are one and the same person. The drug lord is sitting in a restaurant on the street and warns cousin against killing him. The latter replies that he does not want to kill him, but has him arrested shortly afterwards by the police officers who are hidden in the area.

In the last scene, Sean Vetter is shown once again mourning the grave of his late wife.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on April 4, 2003 that the script tried to combine too many elements of the plot. The critic scoffed that the film was shot and published, but not finished.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was "extremely tough" and "tailored entirely to its brawny leading actor Vin Diesel". He neither shows the psychological background nor does he combine "the loose strands of the plot into a dense structure".

background

The film was shot in California (including Los Angeles ), New Mexico and Tijuana ( Mexico ). Its production amounted to an estimated 36 million US dollars . The global grossing of the film is approximately $ 44.35 million. In the United States, the film grossed around $ 26.4 million.
