The Bavarian State Office for the Environment uses the “cultural landscape of the Fünfseenland ” to describe the Upper Bavarian region between the Ammersee and Starnberger See , which is part of the Alpine foothills and , in addition to these two large lakes, also includes the Wörthsee and the Pilsensee as well as many smaller lakes, of which the Weßlinger See is named as the fifth Lake is considered.

location

The cultural landscape includes parts of the districts of Fürstenfeldbruck , Landsberg am Lech , Starnberg , Weilheim-Schongau and Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen . It belongs to the Ammer-Loisach-Hügelland natural space unit (Münchner Ebene, Fürstenfeldbrucker Hügelland).

geology

The hilly landscape (in Berndorfer Buchet up to 760  m above sea level ) was created primarily by the erosion and deposits of the glaciers during the last Ice Age . Today, in the moraine landscape of the Starnberg district , located between the lakes, coniferous and deciduous forests alternate with agricultural green areas and fields. With its sometimes steep slopes and differences in altitude to the lakes and the surrounding area of more than 200 m (Berndorfer Buchet, Andechser Klosterberg), as well as some deep, sometimes rocky terrain cuttings ( Pähler Gorge , Kiental ), the relief of the Five Lakes region bears some features, especially in the southwest a mountain or mountain landscape .

Flora and fauna

The Fünfseenland has numerous nature reserves, moorlands and pastureland. Ammer and Starnberg lakes are winter quarters for many migratory birds and are home to rare, protected bird species.

Culture

The Five Lakes Film Festival has been held annually since 2007 . It will be held in July and August, spread over six venues in the Fünfseenland.

tourism

The area is a popular holiday and excursion destination, but is also marketed for conferences and seminars. In addition to the connection via the A95 Munich – Garmisch and the A96 Munich – Lindau, the region can also be reached with the Munich S-Bahn on the Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich-Pasing – Herrsching lines . The proximity of the Bavarian Alps allows a good view of the Karwendel , Benediktenwand and Zugspitze .

The catchment area includes the districts of Munich , Starnberg , Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen , Weilheim-Schongau , Landsberg am Lech and Fürstenfeldbruck and serves as an important local recreation area for the Munich and Augsburg population.
