Fading Waves is a post-metal project founded in 2008 .

history

Fading Waves was founded by Alexey Maximuk as a solo project. The multi-instrumentalist Maximuk worked with different guest musicians to realize his music. In addition to the repeated singer Anastasia Aristova, he also involved various guitarists in the implementation of his music. After the release of the first EP Please Wait 2010, which was still self-published, Maximuk signed a contract with Slow Burn Records , a subcontractor of Solitude Productions specializing in post-rock , post-metal and post-hardcore . In the same year a split album was released with the Ukrainian progressive metal band Starchitect . The album received little international attention, but was positively discussed wherever there was a reception. In the following year, Fading Waves released an official debut album, The Sense of Space , which was well received internationally. This was followed by a long break in artistic activity. With Catching the Phantoms an EP was released in 2016, which contained four tracks that were recorded by Fading Waves between 2010 and 2012, but not previously released. The EP was also received largely positively.

style

The music of Fading Waves is mostly attributed to post-metal. The direction of the project is described as atmospheric or dreamy and is often related to post-rock . In addition, the project is compared with different groups of post-metal, post-rock and post-black metal . References to Ulver , Isis , Cult of Luna , God Is an Astronaut and Agalloch are made out .

The “interplay of more violent and gentler moments” is considered to be programmatic and is described on Metal.de as a “balanced synthesis of hardness and calm, of aggressiveness and melancholy”. The music would mostly be calm and come up with "subtle synths [...] reserved guitars and dreamy-ethereal female vocals". The use of electronic effects would support the built-up atmosphere. "Male growls [...] that harmonize with the music and are not too much in the foreground" would be used as a contrast .
