Ferdinand Hasenbalg

Ferdinand Hasenbalg (born February 21, 1793 in Egeln , † July 10, 1852 in Potsdam ; full name: Karl Friedrich Ferdinand Hasenbalg ) was a teacher at the Stralsund grammar school and the first director of the Royal Education Center in Putbus .

Life

Ferdinand Hasenbalg was born as the son of Egeln organist and teacher Heinrich Hasenbalg. attended the cathedral school in Halberstadt from 1804 to 1810 . He then began studying theology at the University of Halle . After two and a half years, his father's financial situation forced him to accept a position as private tutor with a family in Stecklenberg . In January 1814 he joined the 2nd Elb Landwehr Infantry Regiment. With this he took part in the battles near Ligny and Waterloo as a second lieutenant and battalion adjutant . In 1816 he continued his studies and passed the exam as cand. Theol. In Lettin , where his father had meanwhile become a preacher, he set up a boarding house in his house.

In 1816 Ferdinand Hasenbalg received a teaching position at the Quinta and Quarta at the Stralsund grammar school , where Adolf Friedrich Furchau was rector at the time. In 1820 he received his doctorate in philosophy from the University of Halle. In 1823 he succeeded Christoph Gottlieb Groskurd as the main teacher of the tertia. In 1828 he was appointed sub-principal and in December of the same year professor. After Johann Ernst Nice's appointment as rector of the grammar school in 1832, he succeeded him in the office of vice rector.

On behalf of Prince Wilhelm Malte zu Putbus , he developed the plan for the establishment of a higher education institution in his newly expanded Putbus residence . After its approval and construction, Ferdinand Hasenbalg left the grammar school and began the preparatory work together with Franz Biese in the summer of 1836 for the opening of the grammar school, which took place on October 7, 1836. He became the first director of the education department and held this office until his death. For his services he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class.

Ferdinand Hasenbalg died in 1852 on a trip to Bad Kissingen, during a visit to his former fellow student Eduard von Schaper in Potsdam. He was buried in the old cemetery in Potsdam.
