Feridun İsmail Buğeker or, according to some sources, Ferudun Buğaker (born April 5, 1933 in Istanbul ; † October 6, 2014 there ) was a Turkish football player and architect . Due to his many years of work for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , he is associated with this club. He played about seven seasons for the Stuttgarter Kickers in the 1950s and 1960s , making him one of the first Turkish soccer players in German soccer. With the Turkish national team he took part in the 1954 World Cup.
Player career
society
Buğeker began to engage in several sports early on . In addition to soccer, he was also interested in other sports, including athletics , all of which he practiced. He ran the 100-meter run in 11.3 seconds and the 200-meter run in 24 seconds. After Buğeker had played football in various school and street teams, he began in 1949 in the youth of the Istanbul club Beyoğluspor with club football. Here he was accepted into the first men's team after just a few weeks and played for this club for the next three years.
In the summer of 1952 he then moved to the traditional Turkish club Fenerbahçe Istanbul . Here he made the leap into the starting eleven straight away. By the end of the season he had played all league games and scored six times. With his club he became champion of the Istanbul Profesyonel Ligi (German: Istanbul Professional League ). He was also nominated for the national team in May 1953 by the coach of the Turkish national team , the Italian Sandro Puppo , as part of a test match against the Swiss national team and made his international debut in the game on May 25, 1953.
Buğeker, who in addition to his footballing career at İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi ( İTÜ for short ) studied architecture with Paul Bonatz, among others , played with Fenerbahçe until the summer of 1955. According to other sources, he studied mechanical engineering at İTÜ . Buğeker had several offers from abroad, including from Italy and Germany. Since Buğeker planned to continue his studies abroad anyway, he was looking for an opportunity to combine his further studies with his move abroad. Buğeker moved to Stuttgart to the Stuttgarter Kickers and studied architecture at the University of Stuttgart with his old professor Paul Bonatz, after which he became a representative of the Stuttgart school . According to other sources, he studied engineering . At the Kickers he quickly established himself within the team and was then placed in the starting eleven. At the end of 1957 he broke his leg for the second time and had to pause for several months due to an injury. During his time in Stuttgart, he always spent his annual vacation in his Turkish homeland and kept fit with his old club Fenerbahçe.
After Buğeker had finished his studies in the spring of 1963, he returned to Turkey and hired his old club Fenerbahçe. He played here for a few months and then ended his active football career.
National team
After Buğeker had convinced Fenerbahçe with good performances in 1953 at his club, the national coach Sandro Puppo nominated him for a test match against the Swiss national team on May 25, 1953 in the squad of the Turkish national team . Buğeker made his international debut during this game. From then on he was one of the regularly nominated national players for two years.
He was also named to the Turkey squad for the 1954 World Cup . At the end of the group stage, they finished second in the table, tied with the German selection . Although they had the better goal difference, according to the rules at the time, the group runners-up was determined by a play-off between these two teams. Germany decided this encounter 7-2 for themselves. Buğeker was used in two of his team's games during this tournament. After the World Cup, Buğeker was no longer considered in the national team.
He also played once for the second selection of the Turkish national team in 1953.
