Flight operations

Around 20,000 flight movements are handled every year, from motorized paragliders to twin-engine turboprop .

history

The Heubacher airfield was founded in 1961 by Triumph International for works traffic . As a special landing site , it was also approved for general traffic with aircraft up to 5.7 t take-off weight, self-launching motor gliders and helicopters. The asphalt runway at that time was 500 × 20 m in size , which was completely sufficient for the single-engine Dornier Do 27 , which was used as a company aircraft at the time. The runway was initially only connected to the apron by a single taxiway. Hall 1, which was next to the tower , was the only place to park aircraft. In 1962 the airfield was equipped with night flight lights and approved by the Federal Minister of the Interior as a border crossing point .

In order to operate a larger company aircraft, a twin-engine Rockwell Turbo Commander , the runway was extended in 1965 to the 750 m that is still valid today. In the following years, the Triumph company built a second, slightly higher aircraft hangar next to Hall 1.

In 1971 the city of Heubach finally acquired the airfield from the Triumph company. In 1974 the special airfield was approved as a commercial airfield and is therefore compulsory to operate at the published times. The service is shared by two full-time flight controllers , who also work as officers for air surveillance for the state of Baden-Württemberg and as auxiliary police officers for the federal police .

In 1976 the city of Heubach built a third aircraft hangar (single box hangar). Since the runway from the tower was no longer fully visible through this hall, the tower was extended in 1978. During this time, a private investor also built the Am Flugplatz restaurant .

In December 1999, the Stuttgart regional council extended the operating license for the landing field to include ultra-light aircraft .

In 2005, the gas station had to be renovated due to the requirements of the water management office and TÜV . In this context, the range was expanded to include two types of fuel. In addition to AVGAS, you can now also fill up with Super plus and Jet A-1 (kerosene) . This measure has significantly improved the economy of the place.

In 2011 the runway was re-paved and new markings were made on the runway and the apron.
