The combine harvester Progress E 512 is a self-propelled harvesting machine from the GDR for mowing and threshing grain, oilseeds and pulses. The GDR 5 mark banknotes had a picture of this device on the back.

history

The E 512 was redeveloped from the E 510 model (a slight improvement on the predecessor E 175 series) from the early 1960s in what was then the combination of advanced agricultural machinery in Neustadt / Saxony. The aim was to increase the throughput to 5 kg / s for the wheat threshing.

Going back to the demands of the VIII Farmers' Congress in 1964 to build a high-performance, modern combine harvester suitable for large-scale farming , the E 512 was first presented to the public in 1968 at the Leipzig trade fair . At that time it was one of the most powerful combine harvesters in what was then the Eastern Bloc. In the GDR, this series was one of the machines in performance class 1, which were designed for use in fields with a yield of up to 4.5 t / ha.

With the facelift, this type was officially built until 1983, but actually until 1988. This was due to the rather high export share to Arab countries, which preferred a combination variant of bunker / bagging equipment and an additional straw collector. The successor type is the E 514 , which inherited many of the design features of its predecessor.

technology

The four-cylinder diesel engine 4 VD 14.5 / 12-1 SRW with 105 HP and 6560 cm³ was installed. There were cutting units with widths from 3.60 m to 5.70 m. From 1969 a cabin could be delivered to the combine harvester.
