Company data
Since 2009, the Franconian Day has operated as part of the Upper Franconia media group . In the district and the city of Bamberg there is no other daily newspaper besides the Franconian Day (FT), so both are so-called one- newspaper circles .
Departments
Like other newspapers, the Franconian Day consists of different sections . News from Germany, Europe and the world are delivered by the news agency dpa and by correspondents at home and abroad. The Franconian Day attaches great importance to its own local reporting, including a regional and national sports section and a feature section .
history
The Franconian Day goes back to the prince-bishop's court printer of the Kronach printer Georg Andreas Gertner. The first Bamberg newspaper came out in 1754. The newspaper has been renamed several times. Napoleon had the proclamation issued on the occasion of the declaration of war on Prussia printed in 1806. In 1808 Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel's main work Phenomenology of the Spirit was printed. The local newspaper Bamberger Tagblatt in octave format was created in 1834.
The Bamberger Tagblatt merged in 1933 with the Franconian people under the title Bayerische Ostmark . After the Second World War, the Allies granted another newspaper license in 1945 . The first edition of the Franconian Day appeared in 1946. When choosing the name - according to the then editor-in-chief Hans Brey - consciously enlightening metaphors were used: should the newspaper “help lead Franconia's people out of the dark night of Nazi heresies into the bright day of a new time ”. (So Brey in the first editorial of 1946)
In 1970 the Bamberger Volksblatt was taken over. The change from lead type to light type took place in 1981. In 1987 the newspaper also took part in the local radio station Radio Antenne Franken, which later became Radio Bamberg . From 1990 to 1992 the Thuringian Day was published, which had the same cover as the FT and contained local items for southern and eastern Thuringia. A television engagement arose in 1996 with Oberfranken TV . An online presence was launched a year later.
In 2003 the Fränkischer Tag GmbH & Co. KG merged with the Baumann Group from Kulmbach. From now on the Bayerische Rundschau , the Coburger Tageblatt and the Fränkische Tag belong to the same publishing group. Then there are the book and specialist publishers as well as the printing works of the Baumann Group. One of the largest media houses in Northern Bavaria was created. Six years after the merger, the media houses Fränkischer Tag and Baumann operated under the common name Mediengruppe Oberfranken .
A relaunch of the Franconian Day and a restructuring of the editorial organization based on the news desk principle took place in 2005. In 2008 the newspaper printing company was spun off as Pressedruck Oberfranken GmbH & Co. KG. Since then, in addition to the daily newspapers and advertising papers of the “F” publishing group, external orders have also been printed, e. B. Advertising papers and the Heinrichsblatt , the church newspaper of the Archdiocese of Bamberg .
On January 1, 2019, the Fränkische Tag (and with it the Bayerische Rundschau and the Coburger Tageblatt ) received a new editor-in-chief. Frank Förtsch left the company after 19 years. His successor was Boris Hächler.
