Frøslev (German: Fröslee ) is a district of the Danish city of Padborg (German Pattburg ). Since 2007 it has belonged to the Aabenraa municipality , Region Syddanmark .

The place is one kilometer behind the German-Danish border and can be reached via the first exit of the E 45 on the Danish side. The next larger city is the German Flensburg 8 km away.

history

A legend connects a robber baron named Erfling (or Eflund) with the founding of the village of Fröslee. Frøslev was first mentioned in 1472 under the name "Frossleue". Danish and Swedish place names with the prefix "Frös" or "Frej", for example the place Frejlev on Lolland and Fröjel on Gotland , go back to the goddess Freya . This may also be the case with Fröslev. A second interpretation assumes that the place name indicates a “legacy” or “property” of a prince, as the suffix -lev means something like “hereditary property”. The old village center of Frøslev can be reached via Frøslevvej. The old courtyards of the village are clearly recognizable on the winding street Vestergade. In the middle of the village is the old village inn, Frøslev Kro.

In 1875 an area of 700 hectares west of the village of Fröslee, at Kolonisthusevej , was sold to the forest treasury. He planted the area with spruce. The preserved forest area is now called Frøslev Plantage. Until 1920 Fröslee belonged to the district of Flensburg and the parish of Handewitt . In 1901 a small chapel was inaugurated on Ochsenweg near Harrislee , next to Gasthof Krone ( Lage ). The chapel acted as a branch of the Church of Handewitt and was supposed to facilitate the Sunday church attendance for the residents of the villages Harrislee and Fröslee. Since the border revision in 1920 Fröslee has belonged to the Danish parish of Bov Sogn (German: Bau ). In 1944, during the occupation of Denmark in World War II , the internment camp Frøslev , a concentration camp outpost of Neuengamme in the north-eastern area of the Frøslev Plantation, was set up.

various

  • Due to the border location and the proximity to the autobahn, the freight forwarding system has gained great importance for the place.

  • Frøslev has its own school.
