Francileudo Silva dos Santos (born March 20, 1979 in Zé Doca ) is a Brazilian soccer player who took Tunisian citizenship in December 2003 and has since been considered one of the greatest soccer players in Tunisia.
Santos first played in his home country for Sampaio Corrêa FC before being signed by Standard Liège in 1996 . There he was only used in the reserve and therefore moved after two seasons to Étoile Sportive du Sahel in Sousse , Tunisia. The club was trained by Jean Fernandez , the discoverer Zinédine Zidanes . Santos scored 32 goals in 50 games in the two seasons with this club before joining the Second Division at FC Sochaux with Jean Fernandez in France . In July 2005 he was transferred from Sochaux to the top-class Toulouse FC for a transfer fee of 3.25 million euros .
From February 2007 to May 2007 he played on loan for FC Zurich . He scored three goals in the last three games and thus played a decisive role in the city club's 11th championship title.
From July 2009 to January 2010 he was without a club, but then found a new employer in the French second division club FC Istres .
National team
The Tunisian Football Association proposed naturalization to Santos in early 2000. Santos, however, still hoped to play for Brazil . This changed when other well-known players such as Júlio Baptista , Robinho and Fred were given preference in the Seleção . Santos became a Tunisian citizen at the end of 2003 and played for the Tunisian national team . He made his debut against Benin in 2004. He is a very popular player in Tunisia. Many hopes for the 2006 World Cup rested on him, but due to a knee injury he could not be used.
