Frank Davis (screenwriter)
Frank Davis (born October 24, 1897 in Chicago , Illinois , † December 19, 1984 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American screenwriter and film producer.
Life
Davis first appeared as a screenwriter from 1927. At the beginning of the 1930s he turned to film production and around ten films had been made by the end of the decade. From 1940 he worked again as a screenwriter until the 1960s. He mainly served the drama genre, but also westerns and comedies. He provided several templates for Michael Curtiz films . In 1936 he married the screenwriter Tess Slesinger , with whom he also wrote some screenplays. Their son was born in 1937 and their daughter in 1938. Her son Peter Davis was successful as a director and screenwriter of documentaries. Slesinger died in 1945 as a result of cancer.
In 1946, he and Tess Slesinger for the screenplay for the film A Tree Grows in Brooklyn in the category Best Adapted Screenplay for the Oscar nominated.
In 1966 he received his second Oscar nomination. This time together with Franklin Coen for her script for the film Der Zug in the category Best Original Screenplay .
