Franklin Hansen
Franklin Bernhard Hansen (born December 31, 1899 in Shelton , Nebraska , † August 4, 1965 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American sound engineer who won the Oscar for best sound at the 1934 Academy Awards .
Life
Hansen began in the late 1920s as a sound engineer in the Hollywood film industry and was first involved in the creation of a film in 1928 at Interference by Lothar Mendes and Roy Pomeroy .
As a sound engineer for the Paramount Famous Lasky Studio Sound Department , he was nominated for the Oscar in the best sound category for the first time at the Academy Awards in November 1930 for Ernst Lubitsch's Love Parade (1929) .
For the sound created for the Paramount Studio Sound Department in Frank Borzage's film In Another Land (1932) , he received the Oscar for best sound in 1934.
Further Oscar nominations for best tone followed at the 1935 Academy Awards for Cleopatra (1934) by Cecil B. DeMille , in 1936 for Bengali (1935) by Henry Hathaway and at the 1937 Academy Awards for Texas Rangers (1936).
Hansen has worked as a sound engineer on more than twenty other film productions such as Tarzan and the Blue Valley (1949) by Lee Sholem , Pal Joey (1957) by George Sidney and And the Night Will Be Silent (1961) by John Sturges .
