Franz Bosbach

Franz Bosbach (born January 11, 1952 in Bornheim ) is a German historian and university professor .

Life

He completed his studies at the University of Bonn from 1970 / 1972-1977 in the subjects of history, Latin, Middle Latin and political science. From 1971 to 1972 he did military service. In 1977 he passed the first state examination for teaching at the grammar school for history and Latin (with distinction).

Bosbach was born in 1981 at the University of Bonn with the dissertation : The costs of the Westphalian Peace Congress. A structural-historical investigation of the Dr. phil. PhD. His habilitation followed in 1986 with the habilitation thesis Monarchia Universalis. A key political concept of the early modern era also in Bonn. From 1987 he received a scholarship from the Heisenberg Program of the German Research Foundation .

1989 Bosbach was a Visiting Fellow at the College Clare Hall of Cambridge University . From 1989 to 2008 he also held the chair for Early Modern History at the University of Bayreuth . From 2005 to 2008 he was Vice President for Teaching and Studies. Bosbach has been at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2008 , where he was elected full-time Vice Rector for Studies and Teaching in 2008 . His term of office ended in 2014. After that, he held a chair for Early Modern History at the University of Duisburg-Essen until he retired in 2018.

Bosbach has been a Life Member of College Clare Hall at Cambridge University since 1990. Since 1993 he was an elected member of the board of the Prince Albert Society and from 1995 to 2008 its president. In 2015 he left the company.

Bosbach was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class on March 1, 2012 .
