Franz Julius Döteber (born November 10, 1575 in Celle ; † July 5, 1648 in Leipzig ) was a German sculptor, ivory carver and master builder.

Life

Dötebers teachers included Weimar Heinemann in Braunschweig between 1591 and 1593 and Eberhard Wulff in Hildesheim between 1594 and 1597 . 1615/16 made Döteber embellishments on Taufdeckel in the St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, in the Second World War were destroyed, as well as reliefs and figures at the font. From 1632 to 1640 he was involved in restoring the inventory in the Nikolai and Thomaskirche.

From 1622 to 1637 Döteber worked for Duke Adolf Friedrich von Mecklenburg in Doberan . Here, from 1622 to 1623, the tomb of Duke Samuel von Behr's educator was built in the choir chapel of the Doberan Minster . In 1637 Döteber completed his equestrian statue on a relief sarcophagus. The burial chapel with two statues for the duke in the east chapel of the ambulatory was built between 1632 and 1637.

The grave monument for Duchess Sophia zu Mecklenburg (1569–1634), widow of Duke Johann VII. Zu Mecklenburg (1558–1592), and her eldest daughter Anna Sophia Princess zu Mecklenburg (1591–1648) in the town church is also likely to go to Döteber Luebz back.

Döteber's Leipzig works are considered to be important examples of late mannerism in central and northern Germany.
