Franz Korinek

Franz Korinek (born May 20, 1907 in Schlösslhof , Bohemia , † June 2, 1985 in Vienna ) was an Austrian lawyer and politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Franz Korinek, son of a businessman, attended a federal high school in Vienna and then studied law at the University of Vienna . In 1931 he was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD. He was a member of the Catholic student association KAV Bajuvaria Vienna in the ÖCV . In the “corporate state” from 1934 to 1938 he was the senior secretary of the Carinthian State Trade Association .

During the Second World War he did three years of military service . In the further war and post-war period from 1941 to 1947 he was able to work as an independent lawyer in Vienna.

From 1948 to 1950 he was director of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce , from 1950 to 1966 Secretary General of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce , the legal representation of interests with compulsory membership for every entrepreneur.

In 1963/1964 he took over the post of finance minister for the ÖVP in the federal government Gorbach II , which was in office for only one year , a cabinet of the grand coalition with the SPÖ . As befits his professional career, Korinek remained a supporter of social partnership as a politician ; However, from 1964 ( Federal Government Klaus I ) the ÖVP took a somewhat “edgy” course, which in 1966 was to lead to an ÖVP sole government.

Franz Korinek was the father of Karl Korinek , and from 2003-2008 President of the Constitutional Court .
