Frederick Booker

Frederick Booker (born July 12, 1944 in Birmingham , † 2006 ) was a British cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Frederick "Fred" Booker was a member of the Rover Racing Cycling Club Birmingham and began cycling in 1961. He first drove road races, then shifted his competition focus to track cycling . In 1964 he had his first international competitions. In that year he also had his first major success with victory in the traditional race for young sprinters White Hope Sprint Trophy in London .

In 1966 he won the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in the sprint in Jamaica . Also in 1966 he was British champion in the amateur sprint ahead of Ian Alsop , and a year later he came second. He won other titles with his club team in the team pursuit in 1966 and 1967. In 1969 he won the Machchester Grand Prix in the track sprint.
