Free Citizens Union

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Free Citizens Union (short name: FBU ) is the name of a small party founded in 1992 and various groups of voters, some of which emerged from it .

The FBU initially consisted mainly of right-wing conservative or nationally liberal local politicians, mainly former members of the CSU . In the meantime, the party has become nationalistic and xenophobic and is being monitored by the Saarland intelligence service.

In addition, there are groups of voters with identical names in Solingen and Bobingen , among others , who have no relationship with the small party.

Political party

The Free Citizens Union Party was founded in 1992 by Ortwin Lowack and Hermann Knipfer . Knipfer was a member of the Bavarian State Parliament for the CSU until 1986 , had left the CSU in 1989 and founded the Augsburg Citizens' Union in 1990 . Lowack was a member of the Bundestag elected for the CSU , but from 1991 onwards a non-party and non-party member . Lowack was federal chairman of the FBU (until 2002). The FBU particularly attracted bourgeois, conservative or right-wing liberal local politicians and activists, some of whom were former CDU / CSU representatives.

Initially, the FBU had its main focus in Bavaria, but regional associations were also founded in Baden-Württemberg and Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate (until 2008 as LV Saar-Palatinate). The FBU ran for the state elections in Bavaria in 1994 , but only received 0.36% of the valid votes. In the 1994 federal election , which took place shortly afterwards , only individual candidates ran for the FBU.

In 1995, the Federation of Free Citizens (BFB) of the national liberal Manfred Brunner tried without result to collect the local FBU groups for a larger right-wing liberal movement.

In the state elections in Bavaria in 1998 , the FBU only received 0.20% of the vote.

In contrast, the FBU was able to win various mandates in local elections. In particular, Lowack was on the city council of Bayreuth for the FBU from 1996 to 2008 , and Knipfer was on the city council of Augsburg until his death in 2006 .

In 2003 the German Electoral Association (founded in 1996 by former BFB members) joined the FBU.

The party moved further to the right and was increasingly dominated by people from the LV Saarland. The new federal chairman was Axel Enders from Saarland .

The FBU Augsburg disintegrated in 2008, with two groups fighting over the name FBU. The Bayreuth FBU did not run for local elections in 2008.

On July 17, 2009, the federal electoral committee denied party status, so that the FBU was not admitted to the 2009 federal election . In August 2009 the party received 0.1% of the vote in the state elections in Saarland .

In 2010, Axel Enders resigned as federal chairman. Detlef Klicker became the new chairman in 2012. In April 2014, the Bavarian state chairman Walter Pfleiderer became the new federal chairman.

In 2014, the FBU Vaterstetten ran for local elections together with the AfD. In 2015, the Saar regional association also sought proximity to the AfD. The FBU has been monitored by the Saarland's Office for the Protection of the Constitution since 2015 .

In the state elections in Saarland in 2017 , the FBU Saar ran in one of three constituencies and received 51 votes (0.01%).

Local electoral associations

Various other local electoral associations emerged from the party and were only loosely held together by the party. Sometimes only the name was taken over, especially outside of Bavaria. Local / district associations of the party with local mandates existed in Schweinfurt and Vaterstetten as well as in Bayreuth and Augsburg.

In contrast, the FBU Solingen is its own registered association, the FBU Herrsching referred to itself as a voter community. FBU Bobingen was founded in 1989 as an independent and registered association that is only active in Bobingen. FBU Bobingen has no contact with the other FBU groups.
