The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Peace was built in 1899 in Ockenhausen , a district of the Uplengen community .

history

The Moor colony Ockenhausen was founded 1815th Without this being officially regulated, the place was churchly assigned to the parish of Uplengen and was supplied by the pastors in Remels. The poor condition of the paths and streets until the early 20th century - partly because of the soil and drainage conditions, and partly because of financial deficiencies - made it difficult to visit the church in Remels . The residents of Ockenhausen complained about this grievance several times.

At the end of the 19th century there were therefore strong efforts to found an independent community. There are reports from the parish register of the mother parish in Remels which have the theme of the new parish in Ockenhausen.

The Ockenhausen parish was founded on December 6, 1897, initially without its own pastors, church council and church building. Services were first celebrated in the sermon hall . Even before a church council was elected, Pastor Johann Dietrich Müller from Leer was appointed pastor. On April 12, 1898, the parish council was elected at the school in Ockenhausen and began building the pastor's house with an adjoining prayer room . This was completed in 1899. Between 1988 and 1990 the building underwent a major redesign. The choir was expanded by five meters to the east. The new part of the building is dominated by five high choir windows.

On December 6, 1997, the community celebrated its 100th anniversary.

The interior is laid out in the area of the altar and tower area as well as in the central aisle with red hand-formed brick panels. The baptismal font, pulpit and altar were built from red hand-molded stones. The book shelf on the pulpit, the cross and the candle holder on the altar as well as the baptismal bowl on the baptismal font were designed by Walter Arno from Elmshorn.

From 1970 to 1972 Alfred Führer created a small organ. The instrument has six registers on a manual and pedal.
