The 5th Asian Football Championship took place from May 7th to 19th, 1972 in the Thai capital Bangkok . The defending champion Iran won .
With Hossein Kalani (5 hits) and Ali Jabbari (4 hits), Iran had the best strikers in Asia at the time, who also became the record shooters in this final round.
