Futschi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Futschi , also called Fudschi , is a long drink made from cola and brandy (also known as brandy blend ). Futschi is mainly offered in pubs in Berlin . Until the reunification , Futschi was considered a typical West Berlin drink. The mixture of cola and brandy was or is known under other names in the rest of Germany and in other countries.

The name is probably derived from the colloquial “futschikato” for “ futsch ”, “lost”, “broken”. During the time of National Socialism , various jokes were circulated in Berlin like “What is the name of the Winter Relief Organization in Chinese? - pink pink futschi futschi ”. Here, too, "futschi" stood for broken, destroyed, no longer there.

In a literary context, Futschi is typically mentioned in order to conjure up the image of a proletarian Berlin pub scene in the reader. For example, in a text published in the course book in 1978, which says: “You're in a disco somewhere ... come on, sit down, have a drink or something”, or in a novel from 1996: “Me I don't like over there, order me some tea. No beer, no futschi, no champagne, no tea. ”, Or“ Your face looked pale and reflected the blue-red neon light of the advertising lighting behind the counter. '' N Futschi, Klaus', she said, and rummaged around in the pockets of her leather jacket, “from the novel And won't you be my brother .

It is also mentioned on the album Urlaub fürs Kirchen by KIZ In Der durch die Scheibeboxxxer : "Ey, ey you still have a bit of a wat open here, a few futschi are still open here!"; "Futschi 1.50? What does the hectolitre cost here? "

Ironically comical city tours through the “Bronx of Berlin” - meaning Berlin districts such as Neukölln or Britz  - stop at the Futschi “in proper style” or are referred to as the “Futschi Tour”. A report on the gentrification of Prenzlauer Berg is symbolically entitled "The Last Futschi".

The Futschi achieved further fame through the broadcasts by Kurt Krömers . In Kurt Krömer - the international show and Krömer - late night show , the Futschi is recommended to his prominent guests as a cult drink by the presenter & entertainer Krömer, with the name “The national drink of Neukölln ”. According to Krömer, “a mixture of 80 to 20 - 80 brandy and 20 cola” is typical.

According to a list in the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Futschi is one of 100 reasons that “speak for Berlin”.
