Gánovce (German Gansdorf - previously Gohansdorf / Johannsdorf , Hungarian Gánóc ) is a municipality in eastern Slovakia, southeast of the city of Poprad .

The place was first mentioned in writing as Villa Ganau in 1317 . The municipality consists of the main town Gánovce (Gansdorf) and Filice ( Fillendorf or Filsdorf ), which was incorporated in 1924 .

In archeology, Gánovce is significant as one of the most important Neanderthal sites in Europe (travertine filling of the skull of a Neanderthal man).
