Günter Fuhlisch

Günter Fuhlisch (born August 1, 1921 in Cottbus ; † September 4, 2013 in Hamburg ) was a German band leader and trombonist of jazz and popular music .

Life

Fuhlisch took piano lessons at the age of seven and his first trombone at 16 . He later studied trombone, piano and composition at the State Conservatory of Music in Leipzig . After the Second World War he played in British jazz clubs in Hamburg, where the band leader Juan Llossas noticed him and brought him to the BFN orchestra. The British Forces Network soldier broadcaster broadcast the orchestra's concerts daily from the Hamburg Music Hall . Fuhlisch led the orchestra at times and performed repeatedly with combos at events of the Anglo-German Swing Club.

1950 Fuhlisch moved to the NWDR dance orchestra in Hamburg. There he led small groups, especially the band "Günter Fuhlisch und seine Solisten", with which he was able to record great successes. His song The old sailor can not sleep at night was placed in the version by Liselotte Malkowsky among the top ten of the German hit parade of 1951. In 1952 he took part in the German revue film Tanzende Sterne . In 1955 he was one of the German All Stars , with whom he also recorded.

Günter Fuhlisch worked for NDR from 1953 to 1978 as an arranger, composer, radio and record producer. He also worked for the film. From 1980 to 1984 he directed the orchestra of the NDR radio broadcast Hamburger Hafenkonzert . Fuhlisch played 1983 to 2004 with the swing band Eine kleine Jazzmusik ; In 1998 he founded a jazz quintet with Ladi Geisler . He can also be heard on recordings by Benny de Weille and Franz Thon .

In 2001 Fuhlisch was awarded the Louis Armstrong Memorial Prize and the Biermann Ratjen Medal .

He died in September 2013 at the age of 92.
