Günter Hopfinger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Günter Hopfinger (born August 6, 1950 in Munich ) is a German artist and former counterfeiter.

He spent his childhood with foster parents near Munich. He completed a three-year apprenticeship as a chemograph and gravure etcher. He then attended the Academy of the Graphic Arts and Fine Arts in Munich. Later he worked as a graphic artist in Munich.

He achieved doubtful popularity in 1973 as "Flower Rembrandt" by tracing several dozen 1000 DM notes by hand or by rapidograph . It should have only taken about eight hours for one copy.

For this crime (making counterfeit money ) he was imprisoned for four years. The case served as a template for the crime scene episode 28 Stuttgart Blossoms , where it was played by Willy Reichert .

For example, Hopfinger's forgeries were in the exhibition Real or Fake ? to be seen in the Leipzig Museum of Printing Art in 2012.

Today Günter Hopfinger works as a freelance artist. His repertoire includes different styles.

In 2000, the Bavarian television portrayed Hopfinger as part of the documentary film series Lebenslinien (episode Today I paint a Rembrandt , director: Bernd Dost ).

In 2009 Hopfinger was sentenced to three years imprisonment as well as being placed in an alcohol rehab center because, after a night of drinking, he was said to have punched his half-sister Johanna M. in the face and kicked her.
