Günter Sieber (born March 11, 1930 in Ilmenau ; † November 26, 2006 in Strausberg ) was Minister for Trade and Supply and Ambassador of the GDR in the People's Republic of Poland .

Life

Sieber was a skilled forest worker until 1947 and a forest trainee in Ilmenau until 1948, after which he was the main clerk in the German Economic Commission. He joined the SED in 1948 and studied at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam from 1949 to 1950 . From 1949 to 1951 he was a consultant in the Ministry of Planning and until 1952 chief consultant in the State Planning Commission . After studying at the party college, he was party secretary of the State Planning Commission until 1962, Deputy Chairman of the Central Commission for State Control at the Council of Ministers until 1963 and first Deputy Chairman of the Committee of the Workers and Peasants Inspection until 1965 . He was also a member of the Central Revision Commission of the SED from 1963 to 1967 .

After distance learning at the Central Institute for Socialist Economic Management, Sieber was Gerhard Lucht's successor from 1965 to 1972 Minister for Trade and Supply and until 1980 the GDR's ambassador to the People's Republic of Poland.

In 1976 he became a candidate and in 1981 a member of the Central Committee of the SED, here since 1980 as head of the International Relations Department . From 1981 to 1990 he was a member of the Committee for Foreign Affairs as a member of the People's Chamber . From November 8th to December 3rd, 1989 he was a candidate for the Politburo of the Central Committee of the SED and Secretary of the Central Committee.

In 1964 Sieber received the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver and 1979 in gold, and in 1988 the Order of Labor Banner .
