Gao Min

Gao Min ( Chinese  高 敏 , Pinyin Gāo Mǐn ; born September 7, 1970 in Zigong ) is a former Chinese art jumper . She won two gold medals at the Olympic Games , two gold medals at the Asian Games and three world championships. She was a bearer of the Olympic torch during the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing .

Career

Gao started swimming at the age of four and, after she started doing gymnastics, was discovered at school by an art and diving instructor who encouraged her to change sports. In 1985 she was accepted into the national squad of the People's Republic of China. At the 1986 World Cup in Madrid , she won her first gold medal from the three-meter board on her international debut. Two years later she won the gold medal from the three-meter board at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul . At the Asian Games in Beijing in 1990 , Gao Min won two gold medals from the three-meter board and one-meter board. At the 1991 World Championships in Perth , she also won the title from both boards. In 1992 Gao took part in the Olympic Games in Barcelona and was able to win the gold medal again from the three-meter board.

Gao Min is the only female jumper who was able to surpass the 600 point mark in competition. After the end of her active career, she worked as a trainer in Edmonton . They occurred during the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing on one of the last torch bearers from the lighting of the Olympic fire.
